A Day in the Life: Merci La Vie

This past weekend I threw caution to the wind and packed up the car for a farewell celebration in Toronto. No kids, no husband, just me and some old friends. My dear friend Chase is moving to Australia for a year and leaves tonight for his new adventure.  I've known Chase for a long time and I've always been envious of his life.  He's a free spirited world traveller who does the things that we all say we want to do.  I'm not jealous....OK maybe a bit, but if anything hearing his tales of far away lands only makes me realize that I need to make my dreams a reality.

While at the going away party and after some imbibing, Chase shared with me (and a room full of people) his new tattoo:

  Merci La Vie

Not only is this an amazing mantra, but I also learned that it was the last facebook post from one of his friends who passed away this year - a young woman that cancer claimed well before her time. This saying is now stuck in my head and heart.  And yes, I know that I can't just pick up and fly around the world,  but there's no reason I can't make it happen at some point.  I will live vicariously through Chase's travels while still relishing my own wonderful moments.

When we finally said our teary-eyed goodbyes I told him that I was jealous of all his amazing adventures.  And his response was "Do you know what makes them great? The amazing people in my life."

So I guess what I'm trying to get at is we all need to be reminded to enjoy and be thankful for our life.  Regardless of how short or long it may be; regardless of how glamorous or seemingly ordinary.  Just enjoy each moment - big or small as they all are special.

Live your life; love your life.

Bon Voyage & Bonne Chance Chase!
