Sneak Peak: #DIY Dining Room Set Makeover

On top of trying to unpack and organize my house I've been taking a couple DIY breaks for a little ME time.  You may remember from my previous post about my first Chalk Paint Victim.  I had purchased a wood dining room set for $150 from a yard sale.  It's a solid wood buffet, dining room table with 2 leaves and 6 chairs.  Not bad for $150!  The only problem is it's a little drab.  Dark brown wood that has seen better days and the chairs are covered in dark brown vinyl.  Ugh....lots of brown.

So I've been slowly trying to transform this set into something glorious.  Now, it's not totally finished, but I can tell you I have completed Operation Beautify the Buffet and have also successfully recovered the 6 chairs. Besides looking totally fabulous, I have spent next to nothing making over these old pieces.

Not sure why, but I decided to tackle the buffet first and a completely change it with a bright coat of chalk paint.  You'll have to stay tuned for my full post on how I gave this old girl a makeover, but I can tell you it was a lot of fun and I'm quite pleased with how she turned out.  Plus, my friend Shannon from Sweet Stella's was kind enough to give me a whole ton of DecoArt Chalky Paint she had for my project.

I've named her Bernadette

So $0 to take this piece from drab to fab!

Just a peak. You'll have to wait until the official Makeover Reveal!
Up next was my very brown chairs.  Again, you'll have to be patient for the full how-to post on recovering chairs, but I will tell you, it's a little trickier than I expected and you really do need the proper equipment. (read: owner of a new fancy staple gun) The chairs look completely different and I love how they turned out.  I spent a whole $25 on new fabric to cover the 6 chairs and I have just enough left over in case I ever need to recover one that has had an unfortunate accident.

Before - all brown, all the time.

After- Nothing a little faux Croc can't fix!
I have to say for my initial $150 investment, plus $25 in fabric and a little DIY, it has been totally worth it.  All I have left is the table to transform and I will be done!

A whole new dining room set for less than $200?!  Not too shabby at all!
