Race Day Prep

Call me motivated or crazy or whatever, but this weekend I've decided to run TWO 5 km races!  I haven't run a race in over 3 years and just started back running less than 2 months ago.  So maybe just a touch crazy, but I'm so excited!

Today is going to be race weekend prep day! How do you prepare for your big day? Here's a few things I'll be doing to ensure I'm ready to go at the starting line:

How to Prepare for a Race
  • Playlist - this is super important! I will be ensuring my little IPod Shuffle is fully charged and fully loaded with my favourite jams. There's nothing worse than heading out of the starting gate with your battery dead or trying to shuffle to your favourite song. Here's a couple new tunes I will be adding to the line up:

  • Outfit - this afternoon I will be planning out my running outfit.  And yes, it is something you should give some thought.  I will make sure my favourite shorts, socks & even undies are washed and ready to rock.  There's nothing worse than feeling rushed in the morning searching for your gear or using a pair of inferior socks for your big race!

    • Rest - absolutely! No running for me today.  I may do a little yoga or go for a walk, but I'm confident my training has prepared me for tomorrow. The last thing I want to do is overdo it or injure myself the night before the race!
    • Relax - I think this an definite must do.  Whether is curling up with a book, meditating or taking a nap, giving yourself a mental & physical break will definitely help you tackle that starting line. Me? I'm taking a bubble bath tonight to enjoy a little R & R.
    • Recharge - the last thing I will be focusing on today is recharging my body.  There will be lots of hydrating and nutrient loading.  That way I will be recharged and ready to go in the early morning without having to eat or drink copious amounts before heading the the race.
